Ready to Live Your Best Life?!
More Prevalent Than You May Think
Conditions like anxiety and depression can be devastating to adolescents who are already going through one of the most emotionally turbulent stages of their lives. Anxiety and depression can have an equally devastating effect on adults as well.
According to the WHO, depression is the leading cause of poor health and disability worldwide. It’s estimated that 1 in 10 U.S. adults struggle with depression and another 40 million have anxiety. It’s quite common, too, for people to have both conditions at the same time. In fact, close to half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with anxiety.
The big question is why? You may have heard that depression and anxiety run in families leading you to believe genetic factors are the cause. Another common theory is that it is due to a ‘chemical imbalance’ in your brain. The truth is, all brain disorders are complex and involve many factors. Those factors are different for everyone. So, it doesn’t really make sense to identify a singular cause or offer a ‘one size fits all’ treatment.
If you’re reading this, it’s probably because the only solution you’ve been offered is prescription medication. And it’s either not working, or you’re looking for a different, more natural solution to the traditional western medicine ‘one size fits all’ approach. If you’d like to learn how we can help you or someone you love, we invite you to schedule a free consultation with one of our experts.
Our Approach is Different
Like other health issues, we take a completely different approach to anxiety and depression. The first step in our treatment process utilizes Microcurent Neurofeedback (MCN), an FDA registered treatment designed to retrain your brain in a very non-invasive and passive way. This allows you to experience relief very quickly. In fact, most of our clients report a noticeable and positive change in less than three sessions.
The next step in our process looks for the underlying or ‘root cause’ of your anxiety and depression, which are different for everyone. The key is to understand that all brain disorders are systemic. In other words, if other parts of the body are malfunctioning, they will affect the brain. We utilize an evidenced-based, holistic approach that may include advanced testing to uncover hidden causes and exposures, nutritional deficiencies, chronic inflammation, and more. A customized care plan may be recommended to remove barriers to health and restore optimal brain function.
If this type of approach resonates with you we may just what you’ve been looking for.
Emer’s Journey – Beating Anxiety and Depression
“Before working with Dr. Thompson, I suffered from intense anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. I was not able walk from my vehicle to my house after dark without someone from my family meeting me and walking me inside; I even dreaded going to the grocery store by myself. There were just too many people. I would also experience nightmares a couple of times per week and panic attacks that were super easy to trigger. I wasn’t motivated to clean my room and pick up after myself, and I was actually failing in high school and in jeopardy of not graduating.
I experienced a lot of positive change with my anxiety and depression. I can now be in social situations without worrying what others think about me, and I can go to the grocery and shop by myself. I was able to bring all of my grades up and graduate high school on time. My sleep has improved; I no longer have nightmares, and I keep my room clean.
Two months ago it was impossible for me to stay at home alone for more than 2 hours without becoming anxious. I am now house sitting for extra money and have no problems staying by myself. I recently took a trip to Las Vegas and although some unexpected stressful situations arose, I did not experience a panic attack or withdraw like I would have in the past. I have also been able to decrease my dependence on my antidepressant. For anyone suffering from anxiety and depression, this can really help.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are antidepressants the best solution for my depression?
With the traditional symptom-based approach of western medicine, doctors typically reach for the prescription pad as the only solution. There are good reasons, however, to think twice before taking anti-depressants since they may increase the risk of other health problems and their effectiveness is questionable. More importantly, research shows that antidepressants work no better than a placebo for mild to moderate depression.
Recent studies have shown 13 out of 14 anti-depressants did not work to relieve symptoms in children and teens. Studies have also shown they increase your risk of developing other illnesses. What? Yes, it’s true. Antidepressants have been shown to cause Type 2 diabetes and increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Yikes! Certain drugs can even cause nutrient deficiencies. In the case of tricyclic antidepressants (TCA’s) like amitriptyline, Vitamin B12 and Co-Enzyme Q10 deficiencies can occur. These two nutrients are necessary for proper mitochondrial function. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI’s) can lead to iodine and folate deficiency. Even the development of dementia has been linked to treatment with SSRIs, MAOIs, heterocyclic antidepressants, and other antidepressants.
In addition, antidepressant have been linked to:
- Doubling the risk of harm from suicide and violence in healthy individuals
- Murder-suicide
- A two-three fold increase in child and adolescent aggression
- Negative impact on pregnancy and developing baby
- Post partem reactions
- Violent behavior
- Increased road rage
- Increased workplace violence
When considering the side effects and potential negative consequences, you may decide a prescription medication is not worth the risk for you or your child. We offer a natural, safe, and effective alternative without the unwanted side effects.

Can antidepressants impact my pregnancy and baby?
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is never more important than during a pregnancy. In addition to eating a nutritious diet, getting proper sleep, and balancing stress, the medications you choose to take during pregnancy can influence the health of you and your baby. Be careful of antidepressants and their side effects. SSRI’s especially can have some pretty profound effects. Here’s a few:
- Pregnant women taking antidepressants have an increased risk of a low-weight baby, pre-term delivery, preterm death, infant death, and neonatal seizures.
- Babies exposed to SSUI’s in-utero had lower Apgar scores.
- Prolonged use of SSUI’s has been associated with lower language competency at age 3.
- SSRIs may disrupt fetal deep sleep, which is crucial for normal growth and development. In addition, they’ve also been linked to an increased risk of miscarriage, and many babies exposed in utero even display withdrawal symptoms to SSRIs at birth.
- Children born to women taking antidepressants during pregnancy were more likely to develop ADD/ADHD.
If you suffer from depression or anxiety a more natural approach to your symptoms may be right for you. If you have questions, let us know, we would love to help you make an educated decision for you and your baby. We want you to have the happiest and healthiest pregnancy possible!
